PROGRAM
Everything changed for us in March 2020. That includes our reading habits. As a bookseller we noticed some differences in our customers’ reading. Come and you’ll discover some of my recent favorite books as I dish out opinionated reading advice. We’ll have time for questions, so get your questions ready for me.
SPEAKER
Valerie Koehler opened Blue Willow Bookshop in west Houston in October 1996. She is the general manager, buyer, and oversees all operations.
Blue Willow, with only 1,400 square feet, has become a neighborhood destination with a vibrant children’s department, a haven for book clubs, and a place to meet authors of all genres. This bookshop is a leading partner for many city-wide initiatives; including TeenBookCon, Tweens Read, and Bookworm Bookfest. Blue Willow also partners with many non-profit literacy organizations. Valerie was named a Champion of Literacy by Literacy Advance of Houston. She has served on the boards of MidSouthIBA, Mountains and Plains IBA, American Booksellers for Children, and American Booksellers for Free Expression. Her latest position was serving as a board member of the American Booksellers Association. Valerie has an extremely patient husband and two sons successfully launched into the world (not without the appropriate amount of maternal angst). They, and especially her grandson, give her great joy along with her large, boisterous family of siblings, nephews, nieces, and her 93-year-old mother, the matriarch. |
