SUMMARY:University of Houston Archive Tour
DESCRIPTION:Lisa German\, the dean of the University of Houston Libraries extends a special invitation to HFCW. Dean German has invited us to an exclusive display of rare books just for our organization and our guests. \nNOTE: We are NOT meeting at Sorrento for October. \n\nFIELD TRIP / PROGRAM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur group will be treated to up close views of special treasures selected from the 106\,000 rare books and artifacts in the collection. UH archivists and librarians will be on hand to answer all questions. You’ll discover the secrets of a library that acts like a museum: The oldest item in the collection will astonish you\, Topsell’s 1658 History of Four-footed Beasts and Serpents explains the three different types of dragons\, a 17th century prayer book’s cover is richly beaded and embroidered\, and a 1611 first edition of the King James Bible has pages the size of cookie sheets. Come and see for yourself. \nThe tour will be held on our regular Wednesday\, October 31\, 2018 meeting date and beginning time. We will park in the UH Hilton parking garage on the UH main campus (map and directions: http://www.ericshouston.com/contact_us). Those who live close to each other may wish to carpool. At 11:30am\, we will lunch at Eric’s Restaurant (menu: http://www.ericshouston.com/lunch). This is the restaurant located in the UH Hilton off the lobby. After lunch\, we will have our parking validated\, and then walk over to the MD Anderson Library for our custom tour. (Those who must leave at 1:00pm to return to work would miss the tour and would leave campus following our lunch together.)\n\n\n\n
